The diamond-shaped Isle of Wight is a British county, located in the English Channel off the south coast of the county of Hampshire. It is separated from the English mainland by the Solent Strait. It is the home of unique villages, ancient castles and spectacular beaches.
Isle of Wight, once occupied by the Romans and the Germanic Jutes, has several claims to fame. The beautiful Osborne House, designed by Prince Albert in Italian Renaissance palazzo style, was the summer home of Queen Victoria for many years. It is now open to the public. There is even a holiday cottage that can be booked by tourists.
Isle of Wight is also celebrated for its famous visitors who spent many hours on the lovely beaches. Some of the authors include Alfred Lord Tennyson, Julia Margaret Cameron and Charles Dickens. In 1897, Marconi set up the first radio station on the Isle of Wight.
The Isle of Wight draws masses of tourists to its extraordinary sandy beaches. Thirteen of them have won environmental awards. Holiday cottages are located close to the shore for easy access to swimming and water sports.
Finally, you may want to time your visit to hit the 4-day Isle of Wight Festival in June. Great music and fun-filled activities. As their website says, its only about 300 days to go before the fest begins in 2013. I suggest you start planning your trip right now.

I think Isle of Wight would be an interesting setting for a mystery novel. You know, unexpected murder in an idyllic setting.
